MILITARY BASES OFFER SURPLUS OF OPPORTUNITIES
|
Military bases affected by the government’s Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) program spur an overabundance of redevelopment opportunities. Due to the sheer size of the former bases, developments that sprout on such sites are often master-planned communities. This bodes well for architects familiar with the safety and environmental considerations required by such projects, as well as for local construction companies that have been seeing little work since the recession began. A REIT and a Developer tackle a massive 468-acre project in Ala., while the Redevelopment Authority oversees the redevelopment of a former military base in Ind., and brings onboard a Developer and a Developer for the residential portions. A Homebuilder and a Real Estate Investor team up to transform San Francisco’s Historic location from a former Naval base into a master-planned mixed-use community with residences, shops, hotels and parks. Also keep an eye on a city in Iowa, where a Developer will develop a $41M Armed Forces Reserve Center Complex. Access to this newsletter is not available online and restricted to our subscribers.
