CARRIERS SHOW FINANCIAL STRENGTH DURING THE FIRST QUARTER

Med mal carriers are off to a great start as they report impressive combined ratios for the first quarter, all posting combined ratios well below 100 percent for the first quarter.  Company Removed led the way with a combined ratio below 70 percent.  Company Removed managed a combined ratio in the 70s.  And both  Company Removed and  Company Removed notched combined ratios below 90.  Major insurers have been making a point not to spend more money than they bring in, as evidenced by their numbers regarding underwriting expenses and income.  Despite these solid numbers, the combined ratios showed just a hint that business may not always continue as well as it has for the past few years.   Company Removed and  Company Removed actually saw their combined ratios worsen just a bit compared to last year at the same time, though their overall numbers are still strong.  Company Removed and  Company Removed combined ratios improved.
