ER VISITS, AGING DOCS CLOUD RATE PICTURE

Look for Company Removed to raise rates again in Massachusetts this year, bucking the national trend of lower rates.  The rate increase may be tied to Massachusetts residents turning to emergency rooms in droves and an aging physician population.  However, not all carriers are raising rates.  It looks like some of the other carriers in the state may try to gain a competitive edge by dropping rates where they can, or at the very least keeping them steady.
Company Removed is by far the largest med mal insurer in the state, making any rate increase felt throughout the entire state.  Company Removed, the state’s second-largest med mal carrier, does not plan to do to increase rates next year and did not do so this year after raising rates last year.  Company Removed , a Company Removed company, decreases rates again in the state, as it has over the past four years and may pull in more business with this strategy.  The company has increased its premiums in the state over the past few years, despite lower rates.
